Donald Trump
The American president, Donald Trump announced on May 15, 2020, new efforts in terms of vaccine against the coronavirus. Donald Trump, also formalized the name of Moncef Slaoui as well as that of General Gustave Perna, the two officials who will lead the work to develop a vaccine against Covid-19.
Former pharmaceutical company executive Moncef Slaoui and General Gustave Perna, commander of the U.S. Army Materiel Command, will lead Operation Warp Speed, a new project to accelerate the development process of a vaccine against Covid-19. President Trump made the announcement at a noon press conference in the White House rose garden.
Speaking on this occasion, Moncef Slaoui, a researcher of Moroccan origin, said that the objective set was "to have several hundred million doses to distribute to Americans and the world by the end of the year", indicating that "the data consulted recently made him even more optimistic", thus arousing the enthusiasm of the American president who did not prevent himself from applauding.
"I don't want people to think it all depends on a vaccine, but a vaccine would be great," said the president. "I want to be clear: vaccine or not, we are back," he added, referring to the ongoing deconfinement across the country. The European Medicines Agency (EMA) estimated on Thursday that a vaccine may be available in a year.
